Medical Assistant Program

The medical assistant program is to prepare students for employment in today’s modern medical office setting.  Students will learn to assist physicians during examinations and treatments and perform a variety of laboratory and clinical procedures such as, phlebotomy, EKG, injections, bandage wraps, vision and hearing tests, hemoglobin, hematocrit, glucose, urinalysis, cultures, irrigations, minor office surgical procedures, pharmacology, administration of medication, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical law and ethics and more.  Students will also learn medical insurance billing and coding and other medical office procedures. Students will also become certified in OSHA, HIPAA, First Aid and Medical Emergencies.

EKG/ECG Technician

Students will learn how to perform, read and understand EKG/ECG procedures used to trace the electrical activity of the heart. Students will also gain knowledge in diseases and diagnostic testing of the cardiovascular system, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and vitals. Students will also become certified in OSHA, HIPAA, First Aid and Medical Emergencies.

Phlebotomy Technician

Students will learn the art of drawing blood, blood testing and methods of specimen collection such as urinalysis and other body fluids for examination. Students will also learn medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy history, forms, tubes and data entry. They will also gain the ability to develop the skills necessary to promote laboratory safety (OSHA) and (HIPAA) compliance, as well as learn how to use and care for a microscope, centrifuge and other laboratory equipment. Also, students will become certified in First Aid and Medical Emergencies.

Medical Transcription

Students will prepare to become Medical Transcriptionists by learning the essential tools in all aspects of the medical transcription field. Students will gain essential information on formats for transcribing letters, chart notes, emergency room notes, history and physical examinations, along with operative and specialty reports. Students will also learn how to use the various types of equipment’s used, including speech recognition technology. Also, students will become certified in OSHA, HIPAA, First Aid and Medical Emergencies.

Medical Office Assistant/Billing and Coding

Students will learn how to use ICD-10 and CPT coding manuals in relationship to processing medical health insurance claims. Students will also learn medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, HIPAA/OSHA, and other medical office procedures. Also students will become certified in First Aid and Medical Emergencies.
